Tractor trailer knocked down utility poles and wires in Holyoke

Driver did not stop after crash, Holyoke police say

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A section of Hampden and Lincoln Streets near the Stop & Shop in the Holyoke Highlands was closed Thursday afternoon.

Holyoke Police Sgt. David O’Connor told 22News that a tractor trailer knocked down utility poles and wires, and never stopped.

Jim Levell of Holyoke Gas and Electric told 22News that the power wasn’t immediately lost as a result of the accident, but had to be shut off for about an hour while Verizon put up new utility poles. He said that this affected about 300 customers in the area.
