Thieves accidentally save dog from hot truck

According to cameras, the dog sat in the hot truck for 20 minutes

(CNN) – An apparent break-in with a positive result? Huh? You won’t hear this everyday: thank goodness for these burglars. It may have been just an accident, but this crew saved a dog’s life.

It was Monday morning. The heat and humidity outside soaring. Four men check out a truck. First they walk past it then they return and smash a window making off with a laptop. It was a good thing the window was destroyed.  Inside the truck, a German shepherd was baking in the scorching sun.

Declan Morgan, owner of the Irish Nobleman Pub said, “If the window wasn’t broken the dog would probably be dead.” The dog was in the backseat. They didn’t realize the dog was in there. The windows were tinted in the back.”

Morgan is owner of Irish nobleman pub where the truck was parked. The security cameras captured the burglary but Morgan didn’t see the German shepherd until the owner of the truck returned. Morgan’s furious that he left his dog in the heat.

Declan Morgan: “It was about 85 so he tried to say the dog was in the shade of the building but you know and it was a German Shepherd, um long-haired German Shepherd I’m sure it was pretty hot.”

Morgan says according to cameras, the dog sat in the hot truck for 20 minutes before the four men broke the window and then it was another 40 minutes before the owner returned, in other words the dog suffered for over an hour.

Declan Morgan: “He looked thirsty and he looked more concerned about his broken window than the dog. I said to the guy, ‘you can’t do it’ he was like ‘oh I had the air conditioning on before I got out of the car.'”

Police have not commented on the incident. It’s possible it was not reported.
