Recent heat helps local ice cream businesses

SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) – Most of us are relieved the week-long heat wave is almost at an end.

However, it’s been a profitable week for ice cream shops whose business it is to try and help keep us cool.

The Summer House in Southwick has enjoyed a near record week. Owner Richard Grimaldi told 22News, August is usually their busiest month for ice cream sales, “We get this later in the summer, we’ve been fortunate to have such a run with it, ice cream sales are really up.”

However, it hasn’t just been the humidity that has attracted the crowds. Grimaldi said the weekly Monday visits from the Springfield Forest Park Zoo traveling show has also contributed to their increased ice cream sales this summer.
