Man pulled from Deerfield River in Charlemont identified

51 year-old Adams resident was reportedly tubing with co-workers

CHARLEMONT, Mass. (WWLP) – A man from Berkshire County died while reportedly tubing on the Deerfield River in Charlemont Wednesday.

Mary Carey of the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office told 22News that the 51-year-old Thomas N. Hereford of Adams was with co-workers, reportedly tubing near where the Deerfield River meets the Cold River.

Hereford’s body was discovered by members of the Northfield Dive Team. The state medical examiner will determine the cause of death, though Carey said it is not believed that the man was the victim of any crime.

Farther downstream, a man died on July 16th after becoming caught in a whirlpool along the river in Deerfield.
