SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield’s city attorney says that they are working with law enforcement after federal agents visited two city-run golf courses Thursday morning.
Amy Hosney of the Internal Revenue Service told 22News that agents of criminal division were at Franconia Golf Course on Dwight Road and Veterans Golf Course on South Branch Parkway on official business, though she could not provide any specifics.
“The City has met with law enforcement authorities, and has agreed to provide any records that they requested that we have in our possession, and to cooperate in any investigation that may be going on,” City Solicitor Ed Pikula wrote in a statement to 22News.
Our 22News crew could also see investigators at the East Longmeadow home of Kevin Kennedy, Jr., the manager at both Franconia and Veterans. We saw about a dozen agents going in and out of his home there for a few hours.
Records show that Kennedy bought the lot for his house from Pecoy Homes. Back in April, IRS agents were inside Pecoy Homes offices for a few hours. The IRS would not confirm if the two investigations are related.
At this point, details are limited as to what exactly the IRS is looking for. Kennedy Junior is the son of the city’s Chief Development Officer.
