Chicopee Police warn of cellphone scam where people take phone after asking to use it

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee Police warn citizens of a cellphone scam where people allegedly asking to use their cellphones and then running off with them.

Chicopee Police Department Officer Michael Wilk told 22News that these people have allegedly been coming up with a story so the person hands them their phone. The people allegedly run off with the phone once the person has given it to them.

Officer Wilk said this has also happened in other communities.

Chicopee Police warn that if someone approaches you and asks to use your phone, because of these recent larcenies, you should decline.
