All eyes likely to be on Jimmy Garoppolo

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WWLP) –Patriots held their first day of training camp practice today. Fans got a look at look at Jimmy Garoppolo in the quarterback position after Belichick confirmed Wednesday he will in fact be the starter for week 1.

Tom Brady of course will serve his 4 game suspension, for deflategate during the first 4 games of the season. Belichick confirmed he will be back As the staring quarterback for game 5.

We did see Brady out there practicing alongside Garoppolo today. No word yet on who will start during the preseason games. This will be Jimmy Garoppolo’s first NFL start, he’s only taken the field 11 times since he’s been in the NFL. He said Thursday he’s excited for this opportunity.

“However you want to look at it, I’ve been preparing to be the starter since the first day i walked in here and that’s just the mindset. Every competitor has that mindset so it’s a good thing to have,” Jimmy Garoppolo, (QB) Patriots.

Some of the starters we didn’t see practicing today Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman and Dion Lewis.

The patriots play their first preseason game at Gillette stadium in two weeks.

Rob Gronkowski had no comment on Brady’s four game suspension, but said having such a great fan base will get them through the first 4 games.

“You’ve got to give huge credit to our fans. They’re always there during practice, during games, during tough times, during the good times. You’ve got to give them huge credit crowd, I don’t even know how many it holds there, but they’re always cheering. Even if it’s a dropped pass they’re cheering, which makes it’s funny and gets you through practice. Hopefully, they keep on staying loud and proud,” Rob Gronkowski, (TE) Patriots.
