Coping with the heat and humidity

Temperatures reached the low 90's, but the humidity made it feel a lot hotter.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Today was ‘Triple H’ weather: Hot, humid and hazy.

The National Weather Service warns this heat can pose a serious health risk, especially to the elderly or those on certain medications. But one resident said, he could handle it.

“It’s nice and cool. There’s a breeze. If it was stagnant or if I was wearing work clothes, I wouldn’t be happy about this. But I’m going to sweat if I was at the gym, anyway, so I might as well sweat it out here,” said Kevin McIntyre of Holyoke.

In excessive heat, doctors recommend you exercise after the sun goes down. But they said it’s okay to have some fun in the sun, if you’re keeping cool, whether it’s at a local splash pad or in the pool.
On a day like today, experts recommend you drink plenty of fluids and take it easy. Or stay indoors with air conditioning. But if you need some fresh air, find a spot in the shade.

“It’s peaceful. You can watch the ducks. It’s just a nice place to sit,” said Jean Guerin of East Longmeadow.

The Occupational Safety and Health administration said in excessively high heat, you should drink about 4 cups of water every hour your outdoors.
