WASHINGTON, D.C. (NBC) – A lockdown has just been lifted at the United States Capitol building and visitor center following a report of a person with something that looked like a firearm.

The building was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after U.S. Capitol Police saw something in the backpack of an employee.

A spokeswoman for Capitol Police said the item seen on a security screen looked like a firearm.

The lockdown was lifted after police determined that the item was not a threat.
