Possible contract violation in East Longmeadow

New town council considering whether to make a payment

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – The East Longmeadow Town Council set aside funding Tuesday night, because they might be on the hook to pay for a possible contract violation.

Town Council President Kevin Manley told 22News, Former Chief Doug Mellis is seeking more than $135,000, one year’s salary.
Mellis claims he wasn’t given the required one year notice when the former select board voted not to renew his contract.

“Based on the fact that the previous selectman didn’t remove him for a cause, and chose not to renew his contract… he’s entitled to that one year salary,” Manley said.

Town Council Vice President Paul Federici told 22News, the council took up the matter in executive session Tuesday night, but no decision was reached.

They’ll vote on the issue at their next meeting, July 26th.
