SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Urgent care medical facilities are playing an increasing role in western Massachusetts health care. MedExpress opened its second Springfield office on Tuesday. It’s located on Boston Road near the Parker Street intersection.
MedExpress Spokesperson Alex Negle told 22News that urgent care facilities are popular because they fill a gap in medical care. “We don’t want people going to the ER, waiting for hours for something that can be seen here within an hour,” he said. “If you can’t get in to see your [primary care provider] we want to make sure people are treated in a timely fashion with high quality care.”
Alex Negle said that since MedExpress opened its first office in 2001, they now have 175 facilities nationwide, including 6 in Massachusetts.
