Crews were trying to pinpoint an undergound cable problem near Elmar Drive

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Eversource Energy is blaming a “problem with an underground cable” for a power outage that left nearly 100 households in the dark Thursday night.

The Eversource outage map indicated that 94 customers were without power from 9:00 p.m. Thursday night until at least 10:30 p.m.

Eversource spokeswoman Pat Bandzes told 22News that repair crews were trying to pinpoint the problem cable in the vicinity of Elmar Drive, Independence Road and Paul Revere Drive.

She said that power could be re-routed from other sources and about half of the affected customers would have power restored shortly, with full restoration expected by 11:00 p.m.

She said that power could be restored before the cable problem was fully and permanently repaired.
