Humidity is coming! Here’s how to keep your home cool

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts has been enjoying low humidity the last couple of days, but things are about to change.

We will be feeling the stickiness in the air, and when humidity is combined with heat, that is when it is best to take it slow and remain in cool areas.

Simple tricks you can do around the house to keep the heat out include keeping the blinds closed and keeping the western and eastern portions of your home shaded. If you are someone who has an air conditioner and a dehumidifier, you should know that they don’t always go together.

“At the same time they tend to contradict each other. It’s best not to do them at the same time. If you having problems with humidity, you can use a product called DampRid to pull the moisture out of the air,” said Sam Mariai of Rocky’s Ace Hardware.

You will still get the cool effect from the air conditioner, but the humidity will be taken out of the air.
