HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – For a second time Sunday, Holyoke firefighters found themselves battling a large fire in the city.
Large bales of paper caught fire at the Sonoco Products paper mill in Holyoke. Thick clouds of smoke from this fire could be seen from I-391 North.
Holyoke Fire Department spokesperson Captain Anthony Cerruti told 22News the fire was not in the building, but in the facility’s outside storage yard.
The call for the fire came in around 9:30 p.m. Captain Cerruti said no one was inside at the time of the fire, as the paper mill is closed on weekends.
No one was hurt but crews had to spend time opening the bales up to get at the flames.
