SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It looks like the holiday weekend is going to have great weather for Fourth of July fireworks and barbecues. However, a tornado watch for western Massachusetts Friday night, combined with rain and cooler temperatures, left many anxiously awaiting the promise of better weather.
“My wife told me there’s a storm coming, water from the west, and we might get some rains, a lot of winds, possibly a tornado watch, so that’s what we are watching for,” said Allen O’Dell of Springfield.
While stormy weather complicated conditions on the road Friday night, the weekend weather offers a more positive outlook. Thunderstorms are expected to clear by midnight. Saturday, Sunday and Monday forecasts call for clear skies and temperatures in the 80’s.
George Rollinson told 22News the weekend forecast fits in perfectly with his plans. “Possibly some fireworks and definitely a barbecue with the family, it’s nice to see them again. I was in Afghanistan last year, so it’s nice to be home with those I love the most.”
Friday night, people did drive a little slower on wet roads, but the weather for the rest of this holiday weekend should make it easy to travel and celebrate outdoors.
