SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Hundreds of people are expected to observe the Spirit of Springfield’s July 4th fireworks from boats on the Connecticut River.
There were plenty of boats on the river at last year’s festivities, providing onlookers with a front row seat, but 22News found the Connecticut River near Memorial Bridge to be somewhat shallow on Friday afternoon.
However, after checking the water depth, environmental police expect the river to be ideal for boating on July 4th. Safety will also be emphasized and environmental police, along with the Springfield police and fire departments, will have boats in the river the night of July 4th in case any boaters run into difficulty.
