New research finds few Americans fear the Zika virus

72-percent of Americans believe the government should invest more money into stopping the spread

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Kaiser Family Foundation study shows just 13-percent of Americans feel the Mosquito-borne virus is a major threat to them personally.

Zika virus causes serious birth defects to children born to infected mothers. One woman told 22News, a few of her pregnant friends are concerned about Zika.

Rachel Aron, of Santa Monica, CA said, “I do know a lot of women, who are pregnant. So I know they are enabled to travel to certain places, where it’s kinda big there and they’ve had to switch their travel plans.”

The study also revealed that 72-percent of Americans believe the government should invest more money into stopping the spread of the disease.  And 73-percent want congress to spend more money on research.  So far, ten Massachusetts residents have been infected with Zika.
