(CNN) – All four paws bandaged. His stomach and legs shredded and red. Buddy the dog is in rough shape and his owner will have to answer for it.
“He’s going to be under anesthesia for the rest of the week because they have to constantly take the dressings off and clean them back up.”
Buddy belongs to 60 year old Timothy Nicholas of Lowell.
On Sunday, police say Nicholas tied buddy to his van while he and a friend hung out here at Hovey Park near the Dracut line. When Nicholas left the park with the friend, Buddy was still leashed to the van.
“The dog initially was running alongside of the van but obviously the van sped up to a point where the dog could no longer keep up.”
Several people witnessed Nicholas dragging Buddy down busy Aiken Street for a 1/2 mile before he stopped at this intersection. Steve couture is a dog owner and lover who walks his at Hovey Park every day. His reaction, universal. He said, “You can’t forget your dog tied to your truck or something like that. That’s awful. I don’t know how anyone can do that.”
Nicholas has been ordered to appear in court on a felony charge of animal cruelty.
Buddy, he’s got a long and expensive recovery ahead.
