SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – According to the Centers for Disease Control there are 25,000 new cases of Lyme disease every month.
The fiscal 2017 State Budget Bill has a provision mandating Insurance companies cover long term treatment for Lyme disease. This most common treatment includes the use of antibiotics.
Nurse Practitioner Hassahn Borhot told 22News a tick bite does not always mean you need to seek medical treatment. “If you get that tick off of you and there are no remaining fragments, specifically the head, and you find that the tick is not engorged, then the likelihood of transmission is very, very small.”
Ticks are found in tall grass, bushes and heavily wooded areas. Lyme disease symptoms include a rash, joint pain, fatigue and headaches.
