Fourth of July security increase

(NBC News) – According to AAA, a record 43-million Americans will travel over the July Fourth weekend this year.

As the holiday approaches, we are reminded that independence and freedom must be protected.

At airports and high-traffic areas across the country, security is being increased.

“The American public should expect to see this July 4th weekend an enhanced security presence at airports, train stations, and other transit centers across the country,” Secretary Of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson says.

Intelligence reports don’t indicate a specific threat, and there’s no suggestion of an imminent attack of any kind.

Still, in the wake of recent attacks in Orlando and Istanbul, officials across the country aren’t taking any chances.

“You’re going to see canines and you’ll see uniforms. What you won’t see are are undercover officers that are out and about,” Rob Pedregon of the LA Police Department says.

The show of force is designed for protection and perception, to make millions of holiday travelers feel safe.

Safety strikes the heart of what the holiday is all about.

This weekend will celebrate American values under the watchful eye of those dedicated to keeping us safe.
