7,000 turkeys killed in massive Massachusetts fire

Sue Miner says her family rushed out back, but it was already too late

(CNN) – “They had their lights flashing and they are like your barns on fire.” Sue Miner says her family rushed out back, but it was already too late, “We came running down and called 911 but it was already engulfed.”

The Chief explained, “From what we’re told, there were probably 7,000 chicks from one day old to a couple of weeks old.”

“I built that building in 1957.” Bob Van Hoof, now 89, started this farm in 1954. He’s worried about his children who have taken over the popular family business, “It’s really too bad. Most of the Thanksgiving Turkeys are dead.”

Sue says she’s in shock, but she and her siblings hope to start again. What she’s seeing is heartbreaking, “I started to cry, you know.”
