SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Residents of Longmeadow, East Longmeadow, and the southern portion of Springfield could see discolored water Wednesday.
Joyce Mulvaney of the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission told 22News that this is due to the return of a transmission main back to service. The main connects storage tanks at Provin Mountain in Feeding Hills to Springfield and surrounding communities. With the increased flow and change in direction, there may be discolored water.
If you do have discolored water, you are advised to run all your cold water taps for two to three minutes, shut them off for about 15 minutes to allow the water to settle, and then turn them on again for two to three minutes. Repeat the process if it does not work the first time. Be sure not to turn on your hot water until the water coming out of your faucet is clear.
If the water is not clear after repeating the process three times, call your local water authority.
