American Red Cross apologizes for controversial poster

Several people on twitter called the campaign picture racist

(WIAT) — The American Red Cross is apologizing for a poster that some people find offensive. The title of the poster is “Be Cool, Follow the Rules” and is meant to promote pool safety. The poster labeled children as “cool” or “not cool” depending on whether they followed pool rules.

However, the issue many pointed out was that the children labeled “cool” were white, while the children labeled “not cool” appeared to be children of color. Several people on twitter called the campaign picture racist.

The Red Cross responded by saying: “We deeply apologize for any misunderstanding, as it was absolutely not our intent to offend anyone.”

They claim they have removed the poster from their website and have discontinued production.
