CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News has brought you stories about the infestation of gypsy moth caterpillars in parts of Franklin and Hampshire Counties.
We learned that those bugs can be blamed for an increased risk of wildfires. The gypsy moth caterpillars have been munching through lots of leaves leaving trees dry and sometimes dead.
Experts are reminding you to be extra careful when burning near bare trees. Remember to make sure charcoal is cold before you throw it away and if you smoke, use an ashtray.
These gypsy moths are also being blamed for an outbreak of rashes. Their hairs can cause an allergic-type reaction on the skin that can last for days.
