If you see anything suspicious or are a victim, you're asked to call police immediately

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A woman reported being assaulted in Forest Park while she was jogging Tuesday afternoon.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News a woman told police she was running when a man grabbed her from behind. She said she yelled and caught the attention of some teenagers nearby.

The woman’s attacker took her phone out of her hands and smashed it to the ground before running off.

Two sisters said they were shocked to hear this happened during the day.

“I find the monkey a very interesting story, but from a woman who walks this park, I’d like to know if there is a safety issue here,” said Cathie Hayden of Springfield.

Ann Maynard of Springfield said, “Always think about what if? What if something happened, what could I do? What do I need?”

Sgt. Delaney said detectives from the special victims and major crimes unit are investigating, and are following strong leads.
