SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – With Tuesday being the first full day of Summer, and temperatures in the 80’s, this is a good time to think about protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the sun.
If you want to enjoy the beach and the outdoors in this weather, you’ll want to slather on the sunscreen. Experts recommend a sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor, or “SPF” of 30 to 50.
Dr. Richard Arenas, Baystate Medical Center’s Chief of Surgical Oncology, told 22News you might need to apply it more than once. “Depending on whether you’re going to be out in the sun, potentially sweating, or even if you’re going to be in a pool, you may have to re-apply. And the product should tell you exactly how often to re-apply and especially under what conditions you’d re-apply,” Dr. Arenas said.
Dr. Arenas said it’s important to read the directions on your sunscreen label and follow those directions. He also said it’s important to find a product that works for you and your skin type.
