New England lobster prices to drop

Warmer water temperatures means earlier lobster season

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP)- Lobster lovers have reason to rejoice this season, prices on the popular New England delicacy are heading down!

Michael Fitzgerald of Schermerhorn’s Seafood in Holyoke told 22News that Father’s Day was a boom time for lobster sales, and he has very few left at the moment. He will, however, bring back some 3,000 lbs. of lobster on Wednesday in preparation for the next big lobster-buying holiday: the Fourth of July.

He said that he cannot promise an exact price at this point, but said that the wholesale price will be about $4.99 per pound for the 4th.

Scientists at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute say that lobster season has started earlier this year due to warm ocean temperatures.
