GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Three Franklin County towns have teamed up to encourage solar energy use among homeowners. Shelburne, Colrain, and Conway have decided to collaborate and encourage residents to use solar panels on their homes.
Their new “Solarize” program received several bids from local and national installers. The towns eventually selected the Solar Store of Greenfield to serve as the single installer.
Deciding factors were the competitive installation price and the best economic benefit for Franklin County. The Solar Store of Greenfield will be hosting presentations for residents in these three communities.
Shelburne selectman Andrew Baker told 22News “I thought this was a great opportunity for people in my community and I wanted to team up with the two neighboring towns to create enough households to make a successful purchasing program.” Baker told 22News about 3 percent of households in these Franklin County towns are using solar energy. He said he hopes to see that number increase to 10 percent by the end of next year.
The group plans to officially launch the project in early July.
