TURNERS FALLS, Mass. (WWLP) – The Gill-Montague bridge project is in its final stages in Turners Falls.
MassDOT estimates the entire project will be completed in August. The project involves the rehabilitation of the existing steel structure over the Connecticut River.
Mass DOT said that the added steel beam caused delays. Several steps remain, including work on the bridge deck’s joints and paving on the Gill side.
A sign is up alerting drivers that the bridge will be closed on Thursday June 23rd between nine at night and five in the morning to allow paving of the surface.
There will also be tweaking of traffic signals on the Gill side of the bridge. Once completed, the bridge will have wider travel lanes, and be accessible to bikers.
According to the Mass DOT website, the Gill-Montague Bridge project has cost approximately $47 million.
