Firefighters had to use heavy equipment to free one driver from car

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Three people were taken to the hospital following a two-car crash on Berkshire Avenue in Springfield Monday afternoon.

Dennis Leger, aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, told 22News that a Saturn sedan and Mazda SUV collided on Berkshire Avenue near Robert Dyer Circle. He said that someone flagged down Springfield firefighters after 12:20 to help get the driver of the Saturn out of her car.

Springfield Police Officer Ron Goodrow told 22News that the driver of that car, as well as her passenger, and the driver of the Mazda, were taken to the hospital following the crash. He said that all three are expected to survive.

Berkshire Avenue is open to traffic as normal in the area.
