Rock thrown from bridge damaged car in West Springfield

Police: There aren't any suspects at this time

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A South Hadley family says they’re lucky they weren’t hurt when someone threw rocks and debris into oncoming traffic.

A big portion of the windshield on Caela Kavlac’s car was smashed in. She told 22News she and her husband were driving on Route 5 south in West Springfield, when she saw 3 kids standing on an overpass near the North End Bridge.

Kavlac said next thing she knew, they threw something off it, and it went straight into her windshield. “It could be very dangerous for someone else. We’re lucky that we didn’t panic and didn’t lose control of the car, but somebody else might not have been so lucky.”

West Springfield Police Sgt. Tim Smith told 22News this has happened before. He said there aren’t any suspects at this time.
