Drivers need to be on alert during the summer months

Officers will be out on Memorial Drive looking for violators

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Chicopee Police are warning residents to be cautious on the roadways. School is out, which means more kids will be outside, on their bikes, scooters or skateboards.

Police said there’s also been construction on Memorial Drive, and officers constantly seeing people blocking intersections and crosswalks, sometimes while they’re on their cell phones, not paying attention.

Ken Palice of Chicopee told 22News, “My phone rings and I don’t even answer it. I wait till I can stop somewhere and answer it. You have to be on alert, if you’re not, you could get in trouble.”

He’s right. Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk said officers will be out on Memorial Drive looking for violators, and issuing fines.
