Home-made bomb used to blow up a mailbox in Pelham

State Hazardous Materials team was called in to make sure everything was safe

PELHAM, Mass. (WWLP) – State and local police are investigating Thursday after a mailbox was blown up by a home-made bottle bomb in Hampshire County.

According to the Pelham Police Facebook page, officers were called to Packardville Road around 8 o’clock Thursday morning after a report of a loud explosion.

Police found that a mailbox had been destroyed by a home-made bottle bomb. The State Hazardous Materials team was called in to make sure everything was safe.

Pelham Police Lt. Kevin Fournier told 22News he thinks this was an isolated incident; “But we’re doing a very broad investigation as to what it exactly was. For people to be aware of people around them and their surroundings. Right now we’re not panicking, but we do believe it was an isolated event.

Pelham Police, State Police and the State Fire Marshal are currently investigating this incident.
