CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Many of us have old medicine in the cabinet that we no longer need, and it’s not always easy to get rid of. But now, Chicopee residents will now be able to safely dispose of their unwanted medication at the police department.
Chicopee Police have installed a Med Return Box in the Public Safety Building’s main lobby. Residents will have access to the box 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Officer Mike Wilk told 22News that “With the opiate problem, people have these things left in their medicine cabinets. There are concerns of children getting it, grandchildren, people with addictions might find it. This is a way to get rid of all of that. Bring it to us, put it in this box, it’s secure, and we take it to be destroyed.”
Residents can drop off any medication in the form of pills. They won’t accept liquids, needles, inhalers, thermometers, or aerosol cans.
