Another child died this year after being left in a hot car

GM working on new technology to prevent it

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A 3-year-old boy went into cardiac arrest and later died at a Texas hospital, Thursday. He’s the 13th child to die after being left in a hot car this year.

To address this problem, General Motors created a new rear seat reminder system. This alert will pop up on your dashboard, followed by a chime to remind you to check the backseat before you leave the vehicle.

Michael Hebert of Chicopee told 22News, “If you had a warning, it would be something you’d think about and say hey, why is my beeper going off. Make them look in the back seat so they don’t forget.”

GM plans to debut the system as a standard feature on the 2017 GMC Acadia SUV. No word yet if the Texas parents will be charged in their child’s death.
