Muslim community vows they do not support ISIS

Hold prayer service for Orlando shooting victims

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – On Wednesday the F.B.I condemned anyone who threatens the Muslim community here in the U.S. They said in most cases, these threats are illegal.

Wednesday night, western Massachusetts Muslims gathered at the Islamic Center in West Springfield to hold an interfaith ceremony.  More than 100 residents of all faiths joined in the prayer ceremony.

Muslims here in western Massachusetts wanted the chance to share their message: Muslims do not condone this violence, nor do they support ISIS.

“When these acts are done in the name of our religion its compounded. The trauma is compounded by now feeling that we have to defend ourselves and continue to define ourselves as peaceful individuals,” said Tahirah Amatul-Wadud of Springfield.

The Interfaith Council of New England also attended Wednesday night’s service and offered prayers for healing.
