BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts’ two Democratic U.S. senators have joined a filibuster to force a vote on gun control legislation in the wake of a shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, that left 49 people dead.
Sen. Edward Markey said Wednesday that “a terrorist can be on a no-fly list” and be banned from getting on a plane, but can walk into a gun shop and buy an assault weapon.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren said the country should ban what she described as “Rambo-style assault weapons” and give the FBI “the authority to block gun sales to anyone that they believe is a terrorist.”
The senators are pushing for a vote on legislation that would let the government bar the sale of guns and explosives to people it suspects of being terrorists.
