SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A sense of outrage Sunday over the vandalism directed at La Fiorentina pastry shop, a landmark business in the cities South End neighborhood.
Mayor Domenic Sarno among those who came to console owner Anna Daniele. She told 22News Sunday, two windows were discovered smashed on Friday and quickly replaced.
Then Sunday morning, she found more vandalism, four other windows had been broken overnight.
Customers are furious at those responsible. Lisa Maggipinto-Eaton said she grew up in the South End and the neighborhood has changed, “I used to walk up and down Main Street and Bay State west and there was an old restaurant called Santi’s and I would go on Saturdays and have hamburgers. Now we’re even afraid to cross the street or to be out after five o’clock really.”
Customer after customer expressed dismay that anyone would target this landmark pastry shop that’s been part of the South End neighborhood for the past seventy years.
