16th Annual Katelynn’s ride takes off from Hampshire College

Each year Katelynn's ride preserves her name and continues raising money to fight cancer

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – In 1997, 11 year old Katelynn Battista of West Springfield lost her fight against Cancer. But each year Katelynn’s ride preserves her name and continues raising money to fight cancer.

All day bicycle riders and runners left the Hampshire college starting gate to raise money that goes to Baystate Medical Center’s Sadowsky Center for Children.

Katelynn’s dad Domenic Battista is so proud of what’s been accomplished in his daughter’s name. Domenic said, “The ride started sixteen years ago, our sixteenth year. We’re about to go over the two million dollar mark. It’s incredible from a little western Massachusetts fundraiser, we have some incredible people running it.”

This was an all-day event. Men and women on bikes traveling anywhere from six to 100 miles across the western Massachusetts countryside all in memory of Katelynn Batista and her legacy.
