Survey finds majority of parents have no summer vacation plans

The internet has proved itself to be the most helpful tool of reference for vacation planning

(WKRG) – Summer is here, and that means it’s finally vacation time.

Many people will be making traveling for vacation but a recent survey done by Groupon shows that a majority of parents actually have no activities planned whatsoever.

Despite the fact that 99 percent of the survey’s 1,000 respondents want to do something fun with their families, 57 percent said they have nothing planned for the summer vacation season.

Part of the reason many don’t have any plans is that they can’t afford what they really want: the dream vacation. According to the survey, participants’ ideal summer vacation would cost about $43,154.84 and consist of: six fancy dinners, five movie/beach outings, and two overseas trip. Dream destinations include the Bahamas and Australia.

Among those who do have plans, the average family plans to travel about 600 miles for a 5 day vacation. The most common activities planned are days at the beach and amusement/water park trips.

Most people — about 85 percent — seek vacation activities in their home states. This is less common on the West coast, as parents there are typically more inclined to want to take their children overseas.

Finally, the internet has proved itself to be the most helpful tool of reference for vacation planning, far surpassing traditional advertising.

So, what are your summer vacation plans?
