SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A disabled tractor trailer on Interstate 91 had traffic at a standstill into downtown Springfield at the height of the morning commute Wednesday.
The car carrier broke down between Exits 6 and 8 on the elevated portion of the highway, which is under construction, and already reduced from three lanes down to two. Traffic was completely stopped for a time, before a tow truck arrived. After that, only a single lane of traffic was allowed through.
A tow truck hauled the car carrier away at around 9:15 A.M. and both lanes re-opened, though it took about an hour before traffic was finally flowing freely throughout the Springfield area.
Traffic was backed up well into Longmeadow during the incident.
