Drivers taken to hospital after 2 car accident in Springfield

One car had serious damage to the front end

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The westbound lane on Sumner Avenue in Springfield was temporarily shut down, Wednesday night, while police investigated an accident between a car and a SUV.

According to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney, the road was closed around 6:25 p.m., as emergency personnel assisted the drivers and police investigated the area. One car was in the middle of the street with the front end seriously damaged, and the second car was pushed against a tree.

Sgt. Delaney said both drivers were taken to the hospital with injuries that didn’t appear serious. One person was seen on the ground sitting up, having a neck brace placed on him.

The accident is now under investigation by the Springfield Police Department’s Traffic Division.
