Students celebrated for describing their ideal school

BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP) – State Treasurer Deb Goldberg is recognizing ten first graders for best depicting their ideal school. More than 2,500 first graders from across Massachusetts submitted drawings and a short essay to the “My Ideal School” Contest.

Savannah Glenn was the regional winner from the Newton School in Greenfield. “Have you ever been to my school,” she asked. “The Newton School is awesome.”

Savannah, along with nine other first graders, were chosen for best describing their ideal school. Their requests range from walls made out of chocolate pudding, to a library complete with an aquarium and a tree house. One student even asked for a pool and café at her school.

The goal of the “My Ideal School” Contest is to promote a discussion between teachers and students about their school’s construction. Savannah Glenn told 22News her favorite part about going to school: “My favorite part about being there is that we get to go down the slide and that we also get to play jump rope.”

Each student took home a framed picture of their drawing and a gift bag donated by Santander Bank.
