56-year-old man wounded in shooting on Springfield’s Ontario Street

Springfield police say the victim was hit once in what appeared to be a drive-by shooting

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A 56-year-old man was wounded Sunday night after a shooting in Springfield’s Liberty Heights neighborhood.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that it happened around 6:51 PM on Ontario Street. He said the victim was hit once after several rounds were allegedly fired in what appeared to be a drive-by shooting.

Sgt. Delaney said the victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center, and is expected to recover.

No arrests have yet been made, and Springfield police are still looking into the incident.

Sgt. Delaney added another drive-by shooting was reported on Ontario Street two weeks ago on May 22. He said that case is also still under investigation.
