WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The third annual West Springfield Battle of the Badges was on Saturday.
West Springfield firefighters and police competed to see who could recruit the most donors for the annual blood drive. About 70 people came out give blood today, which is more than double the amount of donations they got last year. And that is important, as blood donations tend to decrease during the summer.
Carly Camossi from the Springfield Park and Recreation Department said, “In the summer months the blood donations at the red cross get fairly low so it’s nice to get everyone to come out for this good cause.”
The police department won the battle of the badges. However, the real prize was getting enough donations to ensure that there will always blood available to those who need it.
