SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – In just the past 3 months, the Western Massachusetts Red Cross CPR training classes have certified 1800 men and women in the use of CPR.
Instructor Sidra Ellison teaches 19 different classes each week. She’s passionate about the need to learn this lifesaving technique. “I began working for an ambulance company, I’ve done CPR in the field. so my personal goal is to teach people what to really expect.”
The CPR trainees in this class are motivated by the need to save lives. And for Rachel Graziano, a a camp counselor, A CPR certificate is a requirement for the job. “It’ll probably make me feel comfortable in situations that like occur,” she said, “when someone needs help especially when working with children.”
Last year, more than 350,000 Americans suffered cardiac arrest on the street or at home. More than 40 percent were helped by someone who knew CPR.
