NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Police in Northampton, Southampton and Holyoke are warning residents to be on the lookout for a man approaching people for gas money. Southampton Police released a photos of the suspect and his 2016 White Nissan Altima.

In Northampton, the man went inside Tandem Bagel and pretended to be both a Boost Mobile salesman and a car salesman looking for gas money for his company car. In Southampton, the man was seen on College Highway near the Old Edwards Library.

Police said he’s been coming up with many different stories about who he is and why he needs gas money. Police are offering this advice.

“If you think there is the potential that the person is not actually out of gas or you think something is just a little bit odd, call the police and we will come down and verify that the person does work for who they say they work for,” said Northampton Police Capt. John Cartledge.

The man is claiming that he will give you your money back, but it’s a scheme. If you see the man, or you’re approached by him, you should call your local police.
