UMass expected to increase their tuition and fees

The university froze their tuition and fees for 2 years

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – The University of Massachusetts website estimates a 3% increase in tuition and fees, which would be about $400. This bumps the cost of “in-state” tuition and fees to about $14,600.

UMass President Marty Meehan said the average tuition and fee increase over the last 3 years was 1.7%.

UMass Amherst student Gautam Balgovind told 22News, “They provide us good facilities and things here, so it is understandable that they would need to charge more. So long as the hike is not too high, it is understandable.”

Tuition and fees will be on the agenda at committee and board meetings on June 8th and 15th. UMass froze their tuition and fees for 2 years, until a 5% hike in June 2015.
