(NBC News) – New poll numbers suggest it could be quite a horse race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton this fall.
She’s barely edging him out, if the election were held today, and she’s facing new criticism for declining to debate Bernie Sanders in California.
The NBC-Wall Street Journal Poll shows Hillary Clinton with a slim three point lead over Donald Trump right now —
A statistical dead heat – with women favoring Clinton, and men favoring trump.
More than half of voters prefer Clinton on foreign policy.
61 percent say they’re concerned about trump’s lack of experience. “What little we know of his economic policies would be running up our debt, starting trade wars, letting Wall Street run wild,” said Hillary Clinton, (D) Presidential Candidate.
Clinton is under fire for saying no to a California debate with Bernie Sanders.
Her campaign says her time is best spent trying to stop Trump. “I think it is a little bit insulting to the people of California, our largest state that she is not prepared to have a discussion with me,” said Bernie Sanders, (D) Presidential Candidate.
Sanders tells the Associated Press this summer’s convention could get “messy” as he fights for the nomination.
Our poll shows a third of his supporters won’t back Clinton.
The party’s agreed to give sanders a key role in shaping its platform if he doesn’t win.
