Longmeadow honors those who gave their lives serving our country

The Longmeadow historical society helps residents and visitors appreciate its history going back 300 years

LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – It was an emotional ceremony on the Longmeadow town Green this afternoon. The town’s 146th memorial service honoring the memory of those who lived in Longmeadow who gave their lives for their country.

There will be many such solemn events throughout Western Massachusetts from now their Memorial Day a week from now. The deeply felt service on the Longmeadow green was an emotional experience for many.

Air Force Veteran James Jones of Longmeadow recounted his family’s longtime commitment to military service. He told 22News, “It brings back, it brings back a lot of memories good and bad. My father my brothers, even my great grandfather was in the civil war.”

This was the final day of the 37th annual Long Meddowe days celebrated along the town common. The Longmeadow historical society helps residents and visitors appreciate the town’s history going back 300 years.

For many who accept the invitation to Long Meddoe days, it offers an opportunity to renew acquaintances or just get to know one another.
